This has probably been asked before but I searched and did not find a specific answer.  Can we embed You tube videos?  If we can embed videos what is the procedure for doing so?

Thanks, Charles

I'm new, but by looking at

I'm new, but by looking at the format of this forum I would say your restricted to a subset of html tags that don't include videos. It may be a limitation of the software or the admins may have set it a certain way.

Videos

You have to remember that this is a free site.  If we all started embedding videos, the server space required would grow by leaps and bounds.   There is no reason for this given how easy it is to just include a link.   I don't see how embedding them here would add anything to the experience - it would just take up a lot of server space.

BTW, I'm just a user of Weavolution, so this is just my opinion.

It would not use server

It would not use server bandwidth of this forum, only Youtube. Your player on your browser connects to Youtube to see the videos. We use Youtube on another couple forums I'm on. We also do not use offsite photo links because they disappear when the host server disappears and you have a red X left in a post where the picture helps tell the story. It appears there is a gallery of sorts on here, which is the way to go for photos.

Lots of free sites allow embedding!

I belong to a number of free sites and at one time hosted a phpbb based forum and they all accommodate youtube video embeddin. As ReedGuy says the video stays on the original site and is just linked on the forum. Much as I enjoy this site and no disparagment meant but this is the quirkiest forum I've ever joined.  Fortunately it is the people who make the community and not the nuts and bolts and this forum has great people!

I'm still trying to figure

I'm still trying to figure out notifications from threads I replied to. I don't get any unless it's a private message for some reason. Hard to follow when one has to manually search through the dashboard. I've tried every setting in my profile page. Even the √ below this post for notification is active.

forum posts

I think you're supposed to hit the "my forum post" in the brown box at the top, but it gives me a blank page.

That link has never worked

That link has never worked for me either. When a thread is replied to that you have notifications for, your suppose to receive a notification link in email. At least it works that way in all the forums I have a membership with. It may be that you have to subscribe to a thread.

Check your Notification Settings

In your profile, there is a Notification Settings tab.  There, you can then "Edit" your Notification Settings.  One setting in particular,

Receive node follow-up notification e-mails

may be unchecked.  If it is, I suspect you will not receive notification emails. Check your settings.

It's been a problem, it

It's been a problem, it hasn't worked for awhile, I wish the current admin would speak up and confirm this for us.

"my forum posts"

works for me. But, as I understand it, it only shows *new* forum posts (that is, when you yourself has started a thread).

Notifications: never tried.

Hello everyone,

It looks like you're discussing things you would like revamped here. As the owner of Weavolution let me answer what I can. First, you can link to you tube, but the site currently does not support embedding videos. This is on the long list of site updates. The issue with notifications are also on this list. However, the fact that my forum posts does not function for all users is news to me. If one or two people who have this problem would e-mail me, I will be able to better trouble shoot that situtaion.

Finally, I would ask that you please keep in mind that this site is run by only two people. We have over 9,000 members and many threads going on at one time. As you can imagine two people alone can not read every post. When you have specific questions you would like us to answer please e-mail us directly. Simply posting on the site may get overlooked, particularly if you are posting in the evening in the US, as we live in the UK. Contacting us directly through the Weavolutuon PM or better yet the contact at weavolution e-mail address will ensure we see your message.

I hope this helps,

Erica

Thanks Erica.

My comments were only in the context that this site is "different" and has it's own set of idiosyncracies and l believe all sites are idiosyncratic to some extent. To me a forum is only as good as the people who post to it and this site is superlative when compared to others in the same genre.  Would it be nice to have some of the items discussed, Yes, but it is hardly a deal breaker. In my opinoin this is the premier weaving-related forum on the web.  I belong to, and occasionally cruise other weaving-related fora. There is a weaving forum whose platform I prefer and I find it more user-friendly but that being said I prefer to interact with the members here.

I understand that you are working on improving the site and that you have limited personnel resources.  I don't expect miracles, I'm a realist and I know anything worthwhile takes time.  I'm sure this site will just get better.  I already see that there are fewer hoops one has to jump through to post.

Thank you for your ongoing effort!

Best regards, Charles
