How long is the ''edit'' option available for a post on a forum? I have noticed that I can go back and edit something I posted earlier on in the day but a couple of days later, the option is no longer available.

I am posting instructional photos on the Backstrap Weaving Group Forum and would like to be able to change/clarify some of the photo captions in response to questions from the group. I f I can't edit, then I need to make a new post and that doesn't really work-trying to reword the caption of a photo that is on a nother part of the page.

I do not believe the edit

I do not believe the edit option should be going away.  Can you tell us specifically what forum post this problem is appearing on?  If the problem is inconsistent, it would be helpful to know this.  Thanks for reporting the issue, and we'll be checking into it.

Here is the node for the

Here is the node for the non-editable post. The troublesome post starts''here is the cross as it''  and is the third down the page after the introduction-it has two large photos..

http://www.weavolution.com/node/4611

Posts ABOVE this one have an ''edit'' option-from there on down the option can't be seen-only ''reply'' or ''delete'' .

Thanks for your help,

Laverne

ps...having just saved this...I see that I can edit it but your message above doesn't show the edit option-only reply or delete.

I think the system is locking

I think the system is locking messages once there is a reply directly to that post.  I noticed that yesterday.

We shall see if that is the case after I post this.

yep, that did it.

My guess is that it was designed that way to keep people from changing their position on something once people have replied to their comment, thus making the replies seem out of line.

I can see where that would be important on a site where there is a lot of bickering... maybe a political site.

I don't know that it's needed here.

I don't know. I am not

I don't know. I am not familiar with how things are working under the hood. But, I have a background in software development and have tested hundreds of applications, so most things like that are fairly easy for me to spot.

Hi Laverne and Deborah, I am

Hi Laverne and Deborah,

I am currently working with our development group to change the forums.  We are looking into numbering every response and having them in exact chronological order.  So, the first comment will be followed by the next one and so on.  Only problem is, if someone who is making comment #12 hits reply to comment #4 which was made a day earlier, their comment will still be the twelfth in line although they may be responding the comment made a day earlier by person #4.

Both methods of presenting comments have their positives and negatives.  Clearly, we have two things going on.  People find the threaded comments difficult to follow and we are missing an avatar/profile picture on the first comment which also needs to have "Reply" at the bottom of it.

We have received mostly negative comments on this current method so will be changing it as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience.
