Cyber-fiber and Browsers

Hi Claudia, Alison, and the rest of the excellent Weavo-gurus!

When I logged in for the "Open House" of the Cyber-fiber classroom last week, it took me a while to get through the front door.  The Webex server claimed that Java was disabled in Firefox (the browser I was running on my Mac).  In fact, I did have Java enabled -- but no matter what I did, I couldn't convince the server of that.  I finally switched over to Safari and was able to enter the classroom with no trouble.

Are there some browsers that work better with Webex than others?  I don't "do" IE, but can readily choose between Firefox, Safari and Chrome.

What do most people use?

Webex differs from

Webex differs from Weavolution and they do NOT like Chrome, in general, and they prefer Safari and Firefox with both Mac and PC.  I have found Safari works best with my Mac and with the PC Firefox is the winner.

Just to be really clear, the Webex system is completely separate from Weavolution.  It's a different server and a whole different program.  Weavolution is one of their many subscribers.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for that

Thank you for that clarification, Claudia.  Safari worked fine on my Mac last week, so I'll stick with it (though I must say, Chrome is a pretty slick-looking browser!).  It's good to know what Webex is most comfortable working with.

And let me add:  when that video conference (i.e., Cyber-Fiber) is working, it's very, very nice. :-)

I have the same problem the

I have the same problem the first time I attended a Cyber Fiber Class. I googled the error message and discovered I had to go into the Firefox Info (click on firefox and then use Command I) and click enable 32-bit!

Hope this helps,

Erica

Oooo, Mary, so you were in

Oooo, Mary, so you were in the conference using Chrome last week?  Cool!  Your connection clearly worked just fine.

Erica, thank you for the information about enabling 32-bit Java.  Daryl had mentioned that during the conference last week, too.  When I looked around inside Firefox, though, I couldn't find it -- and looking in Firefox's "Get Info" window didn't reveal it, either.  But I finally did find it:  in the "Get Info" window for Java Preferences (a Mac utility).

And it's just in time -- I'm taking Daryl Lancaster's Inkle Pick-up class this afternoon. :-)

Thank you, all.
