Cannot get yarns for project to show up

I have tried at least 3 different times to add the yarns for my most recent projects.  I have done the "add new yarn" routine and then added each yarn/color for warp and for weft and then when I hit SAVE and go back and look, they are not there!!!  This is completely frustrating.  What am I doing wrong????

I may be able to help if you

I may be able to help if you give me a little more information. What computer and what internet browser are you using?  PC and IE8 or Mac or what?

Where are you looking for them once they are entered? On the completed project page or in your stash?

Ok. I have tested this on my own projects and learned that we need to work on building the yarn database by adding yarns as we add new projects and put yarns back in the projects we have in our personal notebooks.

Rather than write this out several times, I am adding a new Help file about How to add a project to your notebook which will include how to add a yarn that does not appear in the database.  Please check the Help section in a few minutes.  I need to create the screen shots for everyone to see a demonstration of how to enter a project.

My PC

I am using Vista Ultimate, IE 8 on a PC.  I am looking for the yarns on the completed project page afterwards.  After inputting the yarns, I was able to find them by typing "shetland", so I know they are in my stash. [ETA, I just looked at my stash and there aren't any yarns in there, so I guess the are in the database, but NOT in my stash!]

FYI, this worked fine on the first project I entered (the baby blanket) -- I added that after the upgrade, so I don't believe it has anything to do with that.

Thanks!

The help topic I completed

The help topic I completed for this is HERE.  I am having trouble getting it on the actual Help page right now.

IE 8 is unreliable with Drupal websites and we have found that both Chrome and Firefox which are free work much better.

Your first project may have used yarns that were already in the database and the yarns you entered autofilled without you noticing.  Happened to me a couple times.

Hope this helps.

Adding Yarn, continued

I read through the instructions you posted -- I did follow that when posting my project.  I have tried adding the yarns again (they are in the database) ad managed to get 2 of the total 8 yarns to show up.  Is there a limit on the number of yarns that you can post?  Also, I cannot seem to add any yarns to my stash at all (same thing happens -- I add them from the database, but when I save and go back they are all gone!)

Hi, There is no limit to the

Hi,

There is no limit to the yarns you can add.

I added a few yarns to the database but did not have photos to put there.  After I finished adding my projects and new yarns.  I went to the tab labeled Yarns on the black menu bar at the top of the page.  I found the yarns I had entered because they came up first as the most recent.  I clicked on the title of the yarn, not the picture, scrolled down and just clicked on "Add yarn to stash".  When I clicked on My Stash in the orange box, both yarns I had added were there.

Have you tried that method?  Please remind me what browser and computer you are on. That way we can work to reproduce your experience and give it to the developers.

yarns problems

I cannot get yarns used into my projects either. I tried looking at the help section, but it did not help me. I do not get any choices from any databases for yarns. I tried to create a new yarn,( a very ordinary cottolin, that ought to exist already, I thought) and the system would not accept my manufacturer (Borgs, from Sweden) so I gave up.
I have also noticed that all my previous projects have now no yarns shown. BUT I have just seen a few peojects that do have yarns shown.
I am getting a very heavy feeling of hopelessness with trying to navigate on this new site. And I know it is probably me, being very un-sophisticated with computers.SIGH

Hi Ellen, I'm sorry you're

Hi Ellen,

I'm sorry you're having troubles.  We don't have enough volunteers to get all the help rewritten.  If you have time, please let Claudia know!

I just tried a test one from a non-admin user name using Safari.  I put in a test name and put in 0 shafts (the field can't be blank).  Then in the first yarn field, I typed in "silk" and picked a yarn from the drop down list that appeared.  I did the same in the second field and changed it to a weft yarn in the drop down below.

Please let me know what is different when you try.  We'll get this solved,

Thanks,

Alison

It's good of you to try to help me

What I experience is that I do not get a drop down list.
I can then type in a yarn, but it does not stay there after I save the project, just like the yarns have disappeared from the projects I entered before you changed systems. So now it seems I have been weaving for a year without using any yarn at all! ;-)
PS I do not get a notification either, when there are comments to any of my posts. I only found this because I was hoping there was something from one of you.

me too!

I just added a project, and the yarns don't show. I did it twice just entering the yarn into the project sheet and once by first adding it to the database from the project page.  Neither worked.

I use Firefox, Snow Leopard, and an Intel Mac.

When you entered the yarn,

When you entered the yarn, did the space try to auto fill, indicating the yarn was in the database?  If not, then you need to add the yarn to the database before it will show in the project.

Are you in Safari or Firefox?  Have you checked out the Help section on adding a project?  It's mostly intuitive but if the yarn is not in the database, exactly as you are entering it, then it will not show up in the project.

Also, I assume you are on Mac OS 10.?

This method worked!

I was able to add directly to my stash using this method.  Also, tried adding to an existing project and was able to add 1 more yarn (total of 3 now).  I'll try to add the weft yarns later.  Thanks for your help!

Just to add a bit of

Just to add a bit of frustration from the point of the viewer.  I look at the projects for inspiration and ideas and when none of the yarns show up - it's really a pointless exercise.  Hope this can be fixed.
