Several people have commented both here and in emails to me privately that when they have entered yarns in their projects the yarns are not showing. I spent several hours investigating this issue and working with the Add a new Project form/page. A few answers:
- the Weavolution community needs to help build the yarn, drafts, looms and manufacturers databases.
- when you add a project, if you begin to add a yarn in the Yarn field and nothing pops up in this auto fill field it means that your yarn is NOT in the database.
- IF YOU WANT YOUR YARN TO show in your project, please take the time to add it to the database.
How to add a Yarn
1. Before you add a project, click on Yarns in the black bar and search or browse for your project yarns. Yarns are listed by name or by the most recently added yarns. You can also enter the yarn NAME, not manufacturer, such as Homestead cotton (an 8/2 cotton made by Halcyon Yarn). Search on Homestead in the search box at the top of most pages
Choose Yarn in this search. Nothing came up when I did this search. I can either Add a Yarn before I began adding my project or I can use 8/2 cotton, which is in the database.
2. When you are in Add a Project and you type in your yarn and nothing appears, DELETE what you have put in Yarn box and click on the word Yarn in Create a new Yarn which is under the now empty Yarn field:
You will get a pop up window and you can add your yarn right there. Click save when you finish and you will be returned to Add a new project. The yarn you just added WILL appear in your project when you Save and you will have added it to the database for others to use.
Another method for adding a project
Check that your Yarns, Loom and the Manufacturers are all the database before you add a Project and you can zoom right through the process and it will all be there when you click Save.
You can find all this information and assistance with every aspect of Add a Project here in the Help section of Weavolution.
Computers are literal, not intuitive and not flexible so we humans who enjoy using them need to think in literal terms to work with the computer.
I try to remember this when I am doing anything online.
It's not to say the Add a Project form is perfect. It will be getting a few additions and some hints where we can to help you as you enter your Projects.
If you encounter problems and the Help topics don't offer solutions, please leave a note in this forum and we'll lend a hand.
