Stockholm and Oslo

I have posted to Weavo about my trip to Stockholm and Oslo this spring. It's in the group called Weaving Trips or something like that. Let me know if you can't find it. There's lots to see and it is a wonderful area to visit.

I checked and saw that I had not written much there. I asked that group and was told to take it to the Forum called Chat. I tried that and got a response about guilds in Stockholm. I know that they do not meet in the summer. Weaving lists are better for this kind of sharing, I found. Email me privately if you want my list- it is a Word file now. Near the top is a silk weaving mill in Stockholm which is now a museum, easy to reach and nicely done. Good textile exhibits in some museums, too. Usually the "weaving" forum is for people wanting help with something on the loom. You can search for Sweden and see what people told me when I asked in March or April this year.

Another question I would

Another question I would have...

"Is there something I can bring from America to trade with weavers over there?"

Hopefully Ellen (Denmark), Kerstin (Sweden), and some of our other Scandinavian weavers will chime in soon!

Of course, weaving has been practiced as an art and for functional textiles in all of Scandinavia for many centuries, more than 2,000 years. It is much easier to see beautiful handwoven textiles than it is to find other weavers who happen to be where you are at the same time. Most Swedish weavers use linen and wool and some cotton. There were questions about where to buy Tencel and silk yarns for weaving. (There is an excellent shop for weaving yarns in London.) You might have curent issues of Handwoven magazine, as Vav is much more popular in Scandinavia. I am eager to read answers from other weavers!

There is a major conference in Sweden in September. Others have discussed it on Weavolution in the Chat forum.
