Hello, I belong to a group of weavers that meet every Tuesday in Norris, Tennesse. We are excited to announce that we have agreed to host the Southeastern Fiber Forum to be held in Gatlinburg, Tn, April 29-May 1, 2011.
I am on the committee to find teachers, I am searching for someone who knows someone who would be able to do a good job teaching the art of backstrap weaving. We hope to stay fairly local with the teacher selection, so that we can keep the cost down for the participants.
If anyone has any information, you can contact me here, or at animalcrackers.job55@gmail.com
thanks alot, and check out our blog.

We have the BEST backstrap teacher ever, right here on Weavolution. I suggest you PM bolivian warmi (aka Laverne Waddington) and ask her. She has done a magnificent job with the backstrap group and she has a wonderful blog. She will be in the US in April 2010. I suggest you contact her soon.
Claudia, a backstrap novice thanks to Laverne
Hi Tina,
I went to your blog and I see in the photos that you have a great weaving workshop. Is this at a local college or school? Is there a similar place with looms in Gatlinburg?
I taught at this conference in l990 and Tommye had me come to her college class and teach a day there after the conference. Good luck in your planning. I am sure that you will enjoy it. It looks like you have a nice group of folks.

Claudia, Yes indeed I have just contacted Laverne today. I ran across her blog just recently and that has peaked my interest in this type of weaving. It is low cost, so that even those who cannot afford a loom can readily participate. I thought it would be a great class don't you?
We are anticipation a good conference, we have several members here who have done different conferences before, so we are really excited about it.
Thanks so much for the reply,
Tina Job

Joanne, thanks for looking at the blog. We are a group of weavers that meet once a week on Tuesday, at the Appalachian Arts and Crafts Center in Norris, Tn. We all came to weaving in various ways, but a lot of us came by taking lessons there at the center, and then staying on to make stuff to sell in the shop upstairs. Our contribution so to speak.
What did you teach at the conference in 1990? If I may ask. We will be limited to 10 teachers, and we are looking for a good variety of subjects. I would be interested in hearing your input on the conference back then.
Arrowmont School will be the venue for the conference. We are looking forward to a good conference. Several of us have been involved in various conferences of different types, so we have a lot of combined experience.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Tina Job

Hi Tina,
I took a class at Arrowmont and I probably should not give the date, but it was l973. I am sure that Gatlinburg has changed a lot since then. They had floor looms then so I suppose that they have them today. I will be teaching at John Campbell in three weeks and it is a rag rug weaving class.
At the conference in 90 I taught tapestry (large scale), but I also teach other subjects. I will send that to you privately.
Joanne
