Hello!

I just finished up a rayon boucle scarf. The boucle is 1750 YPP (From Webs in the close out section) and I sett it at 10 epi, but I wove two ends as one. I guess that changes my sett. Anyway, the scarf is lovely. Here's my concern: The fringe. I can't decide if I should twist it or not? I'm pretty sure this couldn't be machine washed anyway because the yarn is rather delicate, but I'm concerned that if I leave the fringe untwisted, it will desintigrate/fray over time. At the same time though, I would prefer to leave it untwisted so the boucle loops are more prominent. Any thoughts? Anyone with any experience with this yarn or something similar? Any ideas would be helpful. :) Thanks!JoAnna

Hi JoAnna, I would love to

Hi JoAnna,

I would love to see a picture.  What structure did you use to weave the scarf?  Have you tried finishing a sample and see how the fringe reacts?  I try to wash my samples in the machine on delicate and get a real feel for how hard wear will change the fabric and fringe.

IMHO, anything with rayon should have a twisted fringe for risk of the yarn disintegrating/deteriorating easily with regular wear.  You can finish it by hand and wear it with the fringe loose and watch for problems then twist if need be.

There are two groups which you might want to consider joining if you do not get an answer here in the weaving forum.  Maybe copy your question above and put it in these two groups.  Some folks use groups, some folks just use the forum.  My personal vote is that you should twist your fringe tightly.  Chenille is delicate by nature due to its structure so twisting and knotting will help save the scarf!  enjoy Deb Mc
