I just purchased an Ashford 8 shaft 36" wide table loom and I am going to assemble it during the Christmas weekend.
My question is - I am uncertain about getting the table stand for it.
I don't think I want the floor treadle attachement - I don't mind chaning all levers, slow is good.
But I would like the loom to be at the correct height.
Does anyone one have one of these table/stands and could tell me at what height the table/stand top is? I might have a table at home that I could use.
Also if you have a stand how often do you use the treadles? OR have you bought the stand for the 16 shaft loom, so you don't have treadles
Do you think it is worth the extra money
Thanks

My very first loom was an ashford table loom - only 4 shafts, but the widest weaving width. I didnt get the stand at first and I was shocked at the size of the loom when it arrived. It took up almost all of my dining room table. I ordered the stand immediately and never regretted it.

Well, two actually. But neither is 36" wide - one is 24" and the other is 16". I think when you get into a 36" width with 8 harnesses you are pretty much talking about a floor loom kind of size. So unless you have a table you can dedicate to the loom, I think the stand would be a good investment. Of course, a sturdy folding table might work too and be less money. Home depot sells a small table (24" x 48") for under $50. Since you don't care about treddles, this might work just fine and give you room on the side for shuttles, etc. Also remember that if you can find an adjustable height chair, the table height won't be an issue. I got a secretarial chair for $15 from a recycling place.
I have an ajustable "office" chair now and my opened sewing table (with out the machine) will be big enough to hold the loom but will I be at the correct height and will my chair get me to that height??
It's all a matter of being comfortable. Since you already have a table solution and an adjustible height chair, just try it. If your arms get sore, from being held up, you might need to go higher. You can always get a different table or chair later, or add a pillow or blanket to the chair to get you higher. But if what you have works for you, that's all that matters.
It's nice to have the option to add treadles. You might find that you want them someday.
Have fun

Can anyone measure their loom and tell me how deep the Ashford (not Katie) table loom is, unfolded and ready to weave. That info isn't in the spec's!

Hi
I have a 32" 4 shaft Ashford Table loom and it's 72.5cm deep for the frame, and allow another 1cm because of the cog handles that turn the warp and cloth rollers can stick out further front or back. Say 80cm to give you a bit of space to park your shuttle in front? I imagine the depths are standard.
If you haven't bought yours yet, I have been unlucky, and I don't know how rare this is, but it's warped here and there and I am chasing problems that resulted in it beating slightly off true and scuffing inside the frame as I beat. For this width it's quite a lightweight structure.
I'm in the process of negotiating improvements with the importer at the moment.
