I will be selling off a LOT of table looms at the end of the Summer and it willbe "first come, first served." I will be putting things up on ebay eventually, but thought I'd offer them first to regional people who are within a reasonabledriving-distance to Selma, ALI have "Dorothy" table looms, a LOT of "Structo" looms, including three of thelarge wooden ones, and about 30 "easy weaver" looms from Harrisville. These have been used in a summer teaching programme that has, sadly, run head-oninto local politics. I purchased all the equipment and have been furnishing theyarn, etc, for the past 6 years. The "bought new" DOrothy looms will be priced at $350The "bought used" Dorothy looms are going for $250The "Easy Weavers" are $30 each for the "A" sizes and $45 for the "B" sizes. The metal "Structo" looms vary, depending on their condition. For the best ofthe 4-shaft looms, I am asking $200. For the 8-shaft models, $300.The old wooden models of the "Structo" looms will go for $200.Until the end of August, the looms can be seen and picked up here in Selma. Whatever I do not sell regionally will be offered on ebay starting in September.there are also miscellaneous items and some simple tapestry looms. I also havetwo large inkle looms still in the boxes and some small inkles. negotiable.I have a large quantity of cardboard looms and H'ville peg looms which are also negotiable
thanks

don't know what happened to my formatting in the original post there.
Hi Nancy,
I tried to fix it and wrote a note to our developers about the entry. I know we both expected there to be a space between the "Thanks" and your name and when I tried to edit it, it doesn't come out like that once you hit save. Strange. I'll let you know if we figure out why.

never a dull moment, I guess (-;
Do you have any bobbin winders? I'm having continued difficulty (belt slippage) with my ancient Harrisville Designs hand winder, and would love to buy a gear-driven one.
Hi Peg sounds like your belt needs replaceing. Go to a autoparts store and find a large O ring or a heavy duty rubber band. You can also sand the small groove the belt run in.
Michael
I am curious to know more about your inkle looms.
I'm interested in the Dorothy looms. Can you send pictures? Does speaking up here give me place in the picking order when distribution day comes in August?
Ramona in Tallahassee
did you email me @yahoo??? If so, see that response.
Hi, Michael -- I've replaced the belt a few times, although not real recently. Part of the problem is making the new belt EXACTLY the right length. Super glue isn't a reliable hold for the join - what do you recommend? Given the weather here in the northeast, I really must use different belts in the summer and winter. In the summer when the rubber stretches out with the heat, the belt must be shorter. In the winter when it's all cold, the belt must be longer. I don't know about newer designs, but this old HD winder doesn't have any adjustments in the tool itself, so the belt must be adjusted - i.e. changed size.
If I sand the groove, won't that make it smoother? What grit sandpaper do you suggest?
Thanks!
Peg
Peg, sounds like you are having fun. I know about the weather in NY I was born in NYC and lived other places in NY. A 80 grit paper will work. What you are trying to do is roughen the groove up. Question does you winder good like this one? This is a HD winder Cheryl purchased in 1976 and uses everyday. I repaired VCRs for years and used a VCR belt to drive the wheel. Cheryl says sometimes the bobbins slip, could this be your problem? Can you drill a hole? I can tell you how to mod the unit to make it adjustable.

will get back to you as soon as I can get out of bed and go up there. I bought them off ebay and have never even unpacked them, since I really hate the whole Inkle process (ahem). I am sure that stems from a lack of familiarity with them. The two boxed-up ones are full-sized and I have about 4 small, "portable" looms. I went on kind of a loom-buying spree when I was starting this up and bought a lot of looms we either used once and put aside, or just never needed.

My bobbin winder looks almost identical to your photo!
It's not the bobbin that's slipping - the upper shaft (that the bobbin fits on) isn't turning. I had assumed it was due to belt slippage, but perhaps the belt is slipping because the shaft is too tight??? There's an allen screw on the outer side of the shaft (right of wooden upright) and another on the inner side of the shaft (left side of wooden upright).
I'd LOVE your clues on how to make the winder adjustable!
Wanna sell me one of those VCR belts? How did you make it the right length?
I've had to wind my bobbins by hand for the last two days!! #@$&#! Stopped at the auto parts store today for an O ring kit (which apparently includes a special glue) - they sent me to the hardware store. Went there - they sent me back to the auto parts store. Obviously, came home without an O ring. I tried rubber bands - the really heavy ones are too wide for the grooves, the thinner ones work for about 10 turns before they break.
Gonna go down to the basement now & see what grits sandpaper I have; know there are several. Thanks for sticking with me on this!
Peg, Remove the drive belt and see if the small pulley is turning freely. If not here are a few things you can do right now. With an alllen wrench remove the upper small gear and see if the gear is rubbing on the wood. Pull the shaft through the wooden block and clean with your sandpaper then wax (car wax, paste wax or even soap will work) before putting the shaft back in get a package of nylon washers from your hardware store(bring the shaft with you) the 1/4 inch size I think will work. Put a washer on then put through the hole and put on a other washer. Replace the small gear. The gear should turn freely. Remove the large pulley and put a washer on the inside of it also. Send me an email to whpenfield at hotmail.com and I will send you a belt if I have one. Try this and I will also tell you how to made the large pulley adustable.
Michael
Hi Nancy, sorry to have take up your space. Claudia can you move Pegs and mine posting to the weaving or DYI page?
Michael
Michael - First, the 80 grit sandpaper did a great job. Not 100%, but probably fixed 70% of the problem.
The small pulley does turn freely. Should I still follow your directions above?
Thanks!
Peg
I am interested in the mini-inkle looms. Do you have any rigid heddle looms for sale?
Claudia
I have 3 or 4 of the mini-inkles and LOTS of rigid-heddle looms...they are the H'ville "easy weavers". There are four of the large "b" size and about 20 of the smaller size, "a"
I am still recovering from my back injury so it will be another week or so before I can get up there and take inventory.
No rush. I am not interested in the Harrisville easy weavers but I may be in one of the mini inkle looms, depending on which brand they are and what sort of tensioning device are on them
Take care, rest your back and don't overdo.
Claudia
Can you send me pictures of your 8 shaft looms...I am extremely interested in purchasing for a new weaving program. I am close to anniston and will come pick up.
Thanks
OOOOOPPPPSSSS!!! I meant Selma. Still very interested.
I am so sorry to hear about your program. Phooey on the politicians!
I am interested in one of your mini-inkle looms but I live too far away to pick it up. Would you consider shipping one to me? What brand(s) are they and how much?
TIA
Susan
Please contact me @ azgardweaver@yahoo.com and leave your email address so I can contact you.
Ann Lynn
Can you tell me more about the Dorothy Table looms you have for sale? Specifically, number of shafts and width. Well, the Leclerc website only lists one width. On a table loom, are there limitations as to warp length?
I guess if translating can be a political act, weaving can too -
Thanks,
Kate
Give me a call @ 334-467-6695. I am going up to the classroom to take pictures, etc, this coming weekend. I just had my surgery last week! Too forever!
I am finally up and functioning, so pictures will be coming this weekend. I am three floors up over there and climbing stairs is off my menu until the end of the week. I will get as many online as I can.
Nancy, if you upload the equipment to a project folks can look at bigger photos than what shows up in the message space here, just a thought...maybe a project page for each type of equipment? and link to your original sell message. take care of yourself Deb
.Whoa, Nancy you had surgery last week and are climbing stairs and carting looms this soon???
Claudia
