"mark read" button doesn't work

debmcclintock's picture

Hi, I try to mark threads with the red "read" button on the forum list.  The screen refreshes but doesn't clear the # that shows on the list.  Specific example is the acrylic thread (can't remember the forum).  I'll come back and post other thread examples as I run across them.

Just was able to clear some other messages in the backstrap group, some buttons work, some don't...should I report this problem by thread or by forum?

Grrrr, bounces me back to the top of page and then doesn't clear it....I can hear the machine saying na na na nana......

Hey Deb,

Thanks for pointing this out. I'll report it to the development folks but the aren't around on Sunday. If you know which specific forums that's a big help. If not, don't worry about it, we'll look for them and see if it's just a few or all of them.

I just tried it with several different forums and it bounces me to the top, which is annoying, but when I scroll back down, the "# read" says 0, indicating it worked.  Is that what is happening to you?

Hi Deb, Can you figure out

Hi Deb,

Can you figure out which forum the acrylic thread is in?  Since this has worked on the threads that I've tried it on, I don't have an example, and finding a thread in all the groups isn't exactly trivial these days.

I know from experience that if I don't give an example for a bug like this, the developers will not find it and will not manage to fix it.

thanks!

I can give you an example.....

Conflicted fabric or rug weaving in the WEAVING forum. This shows 3 unread for me and won't clear. I even tried it 3 times thinking maybe you have to hit it for every unread post but nope, it won't clear. I does work, as Deb has experienced, on other threads.

Hope this helps.

Can everyone who is

Can everyone who is experiencing problems with the read button also let us know which and which version of browser you're using?

I'm going to try some of the problem threads, but thus far, it seems to be working for me.  I'm on IE 8 on  this computer.  I'll try also on my other computer and if I note any problems will write again.

Thanks all.

Just thought this info may help when you are explaining the problem to the tech guys-I just went right thorugh the forums and marked all unead posts as read and all cleared except for the threads that had yellow envelopes next to them-threads that I have never posted on. Even the threads with red envelopes, again, threads that I had never participated in, cleared.

So there are 2 threads that refuse to clear, both of which have yellow envelopes next to them.

Hey Deb, Welcome back, hope

Hey Deb,

Welcome back, hope you had a good vacation.

I find that when I click on the "read" button it doesn't seem to register until I leave the site and return.  Even if you go to another part of the site and come back, it doesn't clear until leave Weavolution.

yes, I've sorta given up on using the "read" button for now.  I just click on the message and use my brower to backtrack.  That way I know it clears AND my browser returns me to the spot on the page that I was on....less paging up and down.  I just tried it to see if it would work.  It has worked on other items.  It is just not worth the aggravation to use it on a consistent basis.

We will continue to work with

We will continue to work with the developers to get it fixed but the problem seems to be hard to track down. It works on some forums and not on others.

We are testing the back to top feature on the alpha site and once that is working, we will add it here. In the meantime, if you have a "home" and "end" button on your keyboard they serve the same function. Home brings you back to the top of the page and end takes you to the bottom.

Deb, I cleared my cookies and

Deb,

I cleared my cookies and cache and signed in  and it cleared the Backstrap group, welcome new members thread without any problem. It bounced me back to the top of the page when I clicked on it but when I scrolled down to the Backstrap group it showed a "0" where I had previously had "8".

Did you try the clearing cookies and cache routine? Worked for me on a mac with safari.

Hi Michael, One of the things

Hi Michael,

One of the things that seems to work for most issues like this is to clear your cookies and cache before you sign in to Weavolution and see if that help.  It often works in IE. If not, please let me know and we will pursue it further with the development team.  It's hard to report a problem to the developers that only occurs for one user. If more people who have cleared their cookies and cache experience the same thing, then we can ask the developers to delve into the code and see what is wrong.

Thanks for your patience and support.

Claudia, I usually just stay signed into Weavoloution.  I tried your suggestion of clearing cookies and caches and logging out and logging in and still sometimes I can clear "read" and sometimes cannot.....using ibook with safari

Should we continue to report this problem?  I've found a workaround (post #22) that allows me to clear items I don't want to read. thanks for your help  Deb

Hey Deb, I do appreciate it

Hey Deb,

I do appreciate it if you keep reporting this. The more information we gather, the more details we can give our developers the better the chances of them getting it fixed. The fact that it is inconsistent makes it a bit harder but if we can get all this together, we have a better chance of working it out.

Thanks, keep the info coming.
