Hurrah! This morning for the first time, if I click on the number of new messages (second column) in "Groups and Forums: Recent Activity", I am taken to the first new post in that thread instead of to the original post.
Great! Does the flag go away too?
Alison, I go to the new message but the flag does not go away..I've tried using my back key and reentering groups & forums from the main menu, the red flag still stands....
Deb Mc, Safari 5.0.1
Alison, the flag sometimes does not go away until I log out and log back in, but this is not consistent. Sometimes thay go away after I have gone to other pages and then come back. When I just now relogged back in I noticed that two threads which I have not read are not flagged at all.
I just went from Groups and Forum where two threads were not flagged, to the home page where they were, on Hot Threads. I then came back to Groups and Forums and they now have the flags. I didn't click on any thread, only moved from the Groups and Forums page to the Home Page and back.
And I just looked at a thread which I wrote most of, which has 39 total messages, and it tells me that 39 messages are new! And when I came back to edit this comment, it shows 2 new messages on this thread, which are your last one and the one I just wrote!
It certainly seems as though we have some inconsistencies. Perhaps the developers will have some suggestions. I'll ask.

The last couple of days the red alerts on forum Chat (and only that forum) has been doing odd things again. When I go to Forums, I see that the chat forum has (today) 65 new messages. Clicking on 65 new, I get to chat, and see thare are (today) 4 new. When I had read them (all 4), and clicked Forums again, there were no new msgs reported.
(Not a big problem, but something is not quite right)

Hi Kerstin,
I have been experimenting with this a bit and discovered if I click on a forum, just using the title and go to the list of Topics in that forum you can see where the new comments are. I then click on the "Mark all topics read" on the top right side and, once it's done, I go back out to the list of all the forums. Now it no longer shows the red new.
You cannot click on the red new and be taken to the new comments when you are on the main Forums page. You can do so when you are on the main Comments page for an individual forum.
Claudia
What I was referring to was the number of "new". There were only 4 new msgs in the chat forum, but in the forum view it said 65 new. The 65 was reset to zero after I had read all the four new.
you are not crazy, it is doing that to me also, I've found going to the same start page (whichever) you choose is the best way to not cuss the system. For instance, I usually only go to the black bar groups & forums page for my start page and it usually renews my "new" message alerts.
I only go to the "my groups" link if I have not been on the computer for a couple of days to see if any conversations have gone on.If I go to the main menu I get all the notes as "new" again. Sorta like Ground Hog day in Weavo (American cultural reference).
I only go to the Dashboard and filter all out but projects & drafts so I can see what items have been added.
Then just to add to the fun if I am on the road and check Weavo thru my Smartphone it all shows as "new" again....sigh..
We all chose our own way to deal with a sticky Weavo mohair warp.
I want to understand exactly what you are seeing so I can ask our developers about this. I am not having a similar experience. I have just finished reading the "1 new" and now I see this:
on the Forums page. Is this the page you are looking at Kerstin? And, just so I understand correctly, once you have marked everything read in each individual forum and you sign out and sign back in later you are faced with 65 or more red new that do not match the number of new comments since your previous visit. Do I have it correctly?
My experience was that I was unable to get a real idea of how many new topics and how many new posts were added since my last visit until I went to each individual forum and clicked on "Mark all as read" and then all the red news were gone. When I signed in the next time, only red news appeared in the correct column and showed exactly where a new comment was added or a new topic was begun.
I appreciate your time to clarify this. I want it to be right.
Claudia
Claudia
I've been on and off Weavo all day and the "red new" were all gone, went back to computer and see what I see? This is on the same computer where they were gone before....groundhog day at the computer

after I've gone thru my messages on the black bar groups & forums page, screen on right is where I was, screen on left was where I went and the red alerts are ALIVE again! ;(((( no more screen prints today, I promise! Deb Mc

And when you checked, the items showing as new you had already read, right? It does take a few minutes for the items to refresh in the caching of both your browser and our website. Have you given it a few minutes and hit the refresh button? I'm just trying to cover all the questions the developers will ask me.
What browser are you in? Sorry, i've lost track.
Claudia
Safari 5.0.1 It is really weird, sometimes it behaves, other times it just doesn't want to refresh or worse, it comes and goes or comes back. Once again, I can't catch the rhythm of the system to pinpoint it to my user name, the browser or the system.
I believe we will always have a few "legacy" issues because our initial Drupal core code was hacked. Although we have vastly improved many things on the new site, we may not be able to overcome all our former demons.
I did notice we have not had any SPAM in over 6 weeks. We do have lots of improvements that go unseen and fending off the fiends has worked.
Another thing I have noticed, the site loads faster and comments save faster.
All browsers and websites have their challenges. Look at FB, it went totally nuts the other day and I was suddenly unable to post anywhere. THen, bam, 15 minutes later it was working.
Claudia
I have made a couple of screenshots (today's tally is 21 new in Chat, which were 7, which went down to 0 after reading, no "mark as read").

Sorry - I don't know why they got to be so small...
My procedure blow-by-blow:
1.enter Weavo (start page)
2. click forums (orange tab)
3. see first part of first img - chat says 21 new comments
4. click Chat
5. see 2nd part of first picture - can only see 1 + 6 new
6. read all new, in both topics
7. click forums in orange tab
8 see second picture - no new msgs
(As they disappeared, I can't make new tries with screen shots until there are some new msgs in Chat...)
Oh - and PC, WinXP, Ff 3.6.8
Hi Kerstin,
I will do my best to try and replicate your experience. Meanwhile, if you look in the top right corner, above the comments box after you click on Chat you will see the "mark all posts as read". I can see it in all your screenshots. I don't know if that will help, just wanted to show you where it is.
Claudia
It seems the crazy counter has calmed down. The last couple of days the tally has bee almost correct - today, for example, the forum page said there were 4 new messages in chat, but I (and the system) could only find 3. As before, after I had read the 3 found new messages (but NOT clicked "mark as read"), and clicked forums again, there were no marked "new".
That's good news. I have been trying to reproduce your problem as described and cannot get my computer or my browser to do it . I have been acutely aware of the red "news" and watching carefully for them to be wrong and they have not been.
Glad to hear it has calmed down. We have made some changes in the background and I hope that has helped.
Claudia
Today I posted a comment in a group and when I went back to the Groups and Forums page a bunch of "new" flags were there, even though I had previously read all of the posts. What I'm trying to say is that there weren't any "new" flags left on that page, but when I posted the comment the count seemed to get messed up.
Maybe that will help track down the old "new" problem.
Bonnie.
I'm editing this in later ...
After posting this comment I went back to Groups and Forums and the count was correct -- i.e. no "new" flags. However, then I went to the dashboard and ALL of the group and forum posts showed red "new' flags. This thread, for example, which should have shown no "new" flags, had "15 new".
Still later ...
After saving the above edited post I checked both Groups and Forums and the Dashboard, and they didn't have any "new" flags. Very intermittant problem and it may be a timing thing ...
Still later ...
After saving the above 2nd edit I checked Groups and Forums and it showed 15 new for this thread, and there were many other "new" flags that shouldn't have been there. The Dashboard was correct though, i.e. there were no "new" flags there.
Still later ...
I just had the same result as above, so now I'm going to save this edit and check the Dashboard *before* I check Groups and Forums ...
Still later ..
Ah Hah! This time both the Dashboard (checked it first) and the Groups and Forums were correct -- no "new" flags.
Hope this helps.
Bonnie.
I've had the same thing happen to me, #11 above, I just keep flipping screens until I get to what I know is right. Sooner or later it resets. I also flip over to dashboard to see if there is anything new I should look for. Basically I've just quit posting that it is a problem since I know that they are working on it.
You will find a delay of anywhere from 10-30 minutes between reading posts and seeing the results in either the Dashboard or the Groups & Forums page. Here is the explanation I have been given by the developers: Weavolution is cached by the web host. This makes the new site move faster as you are going from page to page but may delay updates on things like the red "new" since that is an individual item. Browsers also use caching so Weavolution, like many other sites, faces caching on two fronts. It's a positive because it enables a user to write, save what they have written and move on to read whatever they want to read next and have the pages load quickly.
However, it takes 10-15 minutes for the personal items to update since it's going through both systems, host and browser. There will be a delay as Michael's experiment has helped demonstrate.
Here's a nice article about caching that helps explain it better than I can.
