my guess is that the new member aasim is a spammer
Thanks Kerstin. I think you're right. S/he has been blocked.
I sent you a package yesterday. Let me know when you get it.
Claudia, you might want to take a look at the profiles of new members Gusterj and Viktir42Green43. Looks like spammers to me.
Thanks for finding them. Nasty stuff. Ugh. We may need to consider tightening things up.
Claudia
Member mackliy looks to be a spammer
Thanks Kerstin,
What a prolific spammer. How annoying. Well, all gone, I think.
Please post url if you find any I missed.
Thanks,
Claudia
New member Amely3 appears to be a spammer.
And now s/he is gone! I couldn't find any other posts but it was clear in the profile that s/he had one goal in mind.
Thanks for the help.

?
these spammers are getting tricky, looks like a spammer to me, Claudia will wack them..
See how spam hunting can bring an online community together.
Have a joyful day!
Thank you all. I am keeping a close eye on this one. The link goes to an appropriate spot for the discussion. I have information in my little admin tool box (it's only little because I am slowly learning about all the features) and I have done a little research. This potential (it's like on tv when they talk about the "accused" killer) spammer may be legit. We'll all watch and see if this goes any further.
Thanks for all your help. So glad you guys are here to read and report potential infringements on our community.
Claudia
I think this new member is a spammer
bryanfurry
Thanks, Evelyn. I have taken care of it.
Claudia
Another one? http://weavolution.com/draft/clothing
Kerstin,
You are a spam super-sleuth. Thanks for finding this one.
Claudia
I think the new member "gone" is a spamer. Check weaving post Dress and Wedding dress.
Michael
Thank Michael. It's gone x2
Claudia
Take a look at tracyk859. That's pretty nervy, huh?
Pretty funny at least. Not the sharpest tool in the box, put a spam message in the thread labeled "suspected spam". Well, made it easy for me.
Thanks,
Claudia
Claudia check out new member Ginger
Michael
Please check out new member reviewer
Thanks Franco, good find!
I don't know where these folks come from or why. We have even added additional hoops for them to jump through and yet they continue to try my patience.
Claudia
Thanks Carie. Clearly I need to increase something and tighten things up. Our spam blocker does not seem to be working well enough.
I appreciate all the assistance in finding the comments left by spammers.
Claudia
I just run across http://weavolution.com/weaver/manstyle
Looking at his(?) homepage makes me suspicious...
Thanks Kerstin,
I zapped him. He doesn't seem to have left any other messages. Please let me know if you notice anything.
Claudia
Claudia here is a other one for you to check out: http://weavolution.com/forum/chat/holiday-gift-ideas-weavers-16339#new
Michael
Well, that was gutsy. She added an avatar which looked like a photo of someone.
Thanks, Michael, she's gone.
Claudia
There is a spammy-looking "adam007" in this thread:
http://weavolution.com/forum/chat/looking-weaving-related-jewelry-15544
Sorry, I can't resist this: even though he's online at the same time as me, I don't know him from Adam. ;-)
Ruth
Thanks Ruth,
I agree - spam. I've deleted the posting and blocked the user.
Thanks for the late night smile!
Alison
check this out, please. link he has posted is not fiber-related . the user harry teehan is new and has entries in different treads;
http://weavolution.com/forum/chat/fraser-electric-strip-cutter-15001#new
Thanks Jeannine. That was a good find. I found several posts by him in a way I didn't even know I could. I went to his profile to block his username and there was a box next to his name with all the places he had posted. I just followed those and deleted everything.
Claudia
Looks like this is an odd post to me, new member and pretty much a non-sequitur comment.
http://weavolution.com/forum/chat/looking-weaving-related-jewelry-15544
I agree
I blocked the user and will delete the note. It's a bit too self-serving and has nothing to do with weaving.
Claudia
Indeed. I squashed that bug. THanks for helping out to keep our little weaving community focused on all things fiber.
Cladia
Yep - did pretty much look like it. It's taken care of.
thanks Laverne!
Yes, we still have spam from user name infome.me
http://weavolution.com/forum/chat/crios-...
Have a good day!
Got 'em. Thanks Laverne and Franco.
Claudia
Good find, thanks.
Claudia
Claudia, "prince02" looks like a spammer to me. It's in the "Converting my website to blog format" thread (a thread from 2009).
Ruth
Thanks Ruth, I got it first thing.
Claudia
User "Traveladda" looks like a spammer to me (in the old thread about travelling to San Francisco). Yesterday I saw another as well -- the user's name and message had something to do with landscape gardening.
Ruth
I agree and blocked them. Thanks for letting me know - I had missed that one. I think I got all their posts - if you see any I missed, please let me know!
Here's another one that appears to be spammy: "alfred.frek". This person joined today and posted a link that may or may not have something to do with domain names.
Ruth
Well, that was gutsy. She added an avatar which looked like a photo of someone.
Thanks, Michael, she's gone.
Claudia
Frank Verdin
sorry -- hit save twice. Duplicate msg.
I got a message here from ALICEBABY that sounds like the first step in a phishing attempt, asking me to send my email address "so she can get to know me better". No mention of weaving at all. I blocked her from contacting me, but y'all probably want to look at this one more closely.
Kat
Just found her message in my spam box picked out by my ISP and tucked their safely. Like you say no mention of weaving and funny she had read about me when I've not filled out any details in my profile and this is the first time I've posted. Spam can slow down and clog up a site all too quickly I hope some way of blocking them is found before it proves too much for site or members.
I'm pretty sure it was some sort of Bot. I have posted about it on the home page. I have also blocked the user so that email is taken out of circulation on our site.
When I contacted our host and our developers, the consensus is we have reached a milestone that we have enough users to attract a bot.
I'd rather not but my apologies to those who were spammed.
Claudia
I thought that picture looked a bit too provocative for a handweaver : )
Thanks, Laverne.
Claudia
Comment number 8 on this thread http://weavolution.com/forum/chat/shed-1...
Is spam. It's a great discussion on countermarche sheds, but this comment is tryingbto get us to buy garden sheds!
Erica
Thanks. I think "shippingcases" is also a spammer. I blocked her, too. I got a twofer.
Claudia
The new member (40 min.) eemmaa is whitout any doubt a spammer.
Eva
Claudia, got spam on my shadow weave post and about 6 items on some other postings. Is there anything I should do? http://weavolution.com/weaver/cuilan1
Dawn
Here is another one
cuilan1 strikes again (and again)
. . . before we learn how to identify the telltale signs of "Oakley Polarized Sunglasses disease"?
Sorry, I just enjoy nonsense spamming. In my defense, David Bowie actually did some songs with this kind of random word arrangement. Not his best work, but I liked them, too.
Not only did I block culiani and atomz, I hope to have deleted their poop. I am tiring of this spam and will be discussing tightening things up with our developers. I am supposed to be on vacation but don't like leaving the site without as much admin coverage as possible.
Please, please, email me at claudia at weavolution dot com if you see spam before you see me! I am off but will take care of the spam when needed.
Claudia, hoping to spend a couple days celebrating
Take a look at "weaver637" who posted in the "Which loom is better, Jack or CB" thread. The post is odd and has a link to a page about "carpet tiles". It set my spam antennae tingling....
Ruth
Thanks, those are good catches. I also blocked Snackmixes. Cute picture but clearly one thing on her mind and it's not weaving.
Claudia
posting comment to the dryad loom thread.
Probably spam (or avid weaver/gardener?)
Another one, fooled by the word "shed"...
The last one on this new topic is about cigarettes.
Just to add to Joanne's post on the spammer (since it's still there), here's the link.
Thanks for deleting the spam about cigarettes~~that kind of threw me. I'm new to this site and didn't know what was going on!
We usually get a spammer a week, sometimes more. If you leave a note here or email contact@weavolution.com with the url of the spammy comment, I can remove it.
Some spammers creep me out too.
Claudia, Weavolution co-founder and Manager
(and general all around spam remover)
Thank you all for your help with finding these posts. I delete the offending post, block the user and look on their record for other posts they may have made and delete those. Just so you are aware of the process.
Your assistance, Laverne, Kerstin, Michael, mabaum, Tina, Joanne, et. al. is greatly appreciated.
Claudia and Erica
Rolex posted a comment on one of my posts about how valuable Rolex watches are. I didn't follow any links or anything -
User aniegrg
Thanks for catching that, it's been deleted.
Claudia
In case you haven't notice we have a manic spammer zhengsomthing, this is their user name http://weavolution.com/weaver/zhengyanlin
new group - spam? http://weavolution.com/group/healthlink
I've deleted the group and blocked the user.
Cheers,

jcpphilip
Thank you Kirstin and Tommye for reporting the spam. Thanks to Claudia for blocking and helinf delete comments! I think all the comments are now deleted. Please feel free to e-mail abuse@weavolution.com to report new spam or comments we may have missed!
Don't seem to be deleted yet.
Thanks for your work to make posts safe for us.
Tommye
Under tobacco twine there's another one from jcbphlip
cheers,
Laura
jcbphlip is posting in several forums, the same words followed by several links.
Thanks Laura, I've deleted that one as well!
In eBay loom thread in weaving still has a list of unrelated links. I don't know of you delete posts or just SPAMMERs but this post is still around
Best regards,
Charles
johntravis seems to be a spammer
Weavo needs to find a way to charge people like johntravis an advertising fee to pay for Weavo operating expenses.
If there were a small fee, like $1 to join, it might weed out some of these people.
I've blocked the account and am in the process of deleting his posts.
Thanks for the suggestion as well.
Cheers,
Erica
http://weavolution.com/group/weaving-101...
Author is "jcbphlip," mentioned in another post a few days ago on this thread, but the post above is still there.
These people seem to have borrowed the DNA of cockroaches.
Deleted. Thank you!
David.Grace248
David.Grace248 definitely spammer
http://weavolution.com/group/navajo-weav...
The links they posted are spam
Would it be possible to put new members on moderation until determined to be on topic? My experience is that spammers tend to show themselves on their first messages.
Have a good day!
Franco,
Claudia saw one of the notes on this spammer and blocked it right away. It did manage to post two pages worth of spam before she could to that. Unfortunately the messages about this spammer were posted after I had checked for the day. Please do e-mail us (abuse@weavolution.com) right away when you see a spammer. I see e-mail as soon as it arrives in my inbox, however I can not be constantly refreshing this post all day! :)
I will see if what can be done about moderating new members, this is an excellent idea! I have looked into several options for dealing with spammers for when we update Weavolution.
Cheers,
Erica
Can the abuse email address be put someplace where we can all find it easily so that we don't need to go looking for it through the three spam threads that are currently running. Why not put it on the help page so we can get hold of it easily and quickly.
It's listed in help under General Topics. The link formatted so it opens a message with the subject line already filled in, all you need to do is paste the username in and send. This should minimize the amount of time that you spend reporting spam as well!
Thank you all for taking the time to report these regrettable nuisances.
That's great. I tested it out and all you need do is click on Report Spam and the email is all set up. Thanks ERica, that's a good solution. I know how, as an admin, frustrating this can be. You'll be on Weavo one minute and everything is fine, come back 2 hours later and someone has scattered spam everywhere.
Claudia
I think this user has spammer characteristics
http://weavolution.com/weaver/alanhuttan
Had to come here because I couldn't remember where the spam address is located. Any chance it could be on the resource page & a subject to itself ( as in not nested in general topics). I am ahem of the age where I just don't remember details like that anymore.
He's been. Locked and all activity has been deleted.
Cheers,
Erica
Thanks to everyone who reported the Spammer Berry. Oliver is finishing cleaning up the multitude of posts from this spammer.
Regards,
Erica & Oliver
All over the place, several in weaving. I became aware of it because I got notification of response under my thread "trouble posting" in this forum! It sure would be easier if there was a forum where the top post would be a report on a NEW spammer, or if we could just flag suspected spam.
I have already sent Admin an email. I too have found johns has made a comment on every post that shows when you go to dashboard.
Hi all. Claudia removed most of Johns' posts this morning and blocked the user. I found another this afternoon and got rid of that. If we missed any, please let us know!
I tried to send email to the administrators, but that doesn't work. It opens an email window that doesn't work on my machine. Frustrating. . . .
with the email link but I just copied the address into my mail server and it worked fine.
Thank you ladies. It looks like one of the other administrators saw the post/e-mail and took care of this one. Endorph is correct, if you don't use an e-mail program on your computer, then you should just copy the e-mail into whatever you use to send e-mail. Those of you who most often catch spam for us can add it to your address book and skip the link clicking!
Thanks again for keeping Weavolution clean!
Erica
after Claudia's message on the new Yarn bombing message.
