It's me again, with same problem posting I've writtent to you about before. This time I was trying to comment on Dave's beautiful throw in Projects. EAch time I tried to post, it jumped to a page with message "Comment field is required." The name and subject fields were filled in as I had typed, but the comment field was empty. I have learned to copy before trying to post, so I pasted and tried again. It kept doing the same thing, at least 8 times (usually I give up, but this morning I got stubborn). I tried everyhing I could think of that might break me out of the cycle, and finally succeeded in posting, though I have no idea why: I don't think I did anything that was different from before. It's very frustrating, and the reason I don't post as much as I'd like. This has happened on two computers with different OSs, and different browsers, so I don't think it is at my end. One is new HP laptop with Windows 7, 128 bit, using either IE9 or Firefox. The other was 5 year old Dell 8400 desktop running XP, earlier versions of same browsers..
when I use the return or tab key. I think I'm going to the next field or paragraph and Weavolution thinks I'm trying to post. If I don't use those keys I'm fine.
Thanks, karren, but that does not seem to be the problem here. My problem is that I complete the post, and then try to post, but can't. Message content disappears. This has been a repeating issue for me, and the tech folks have been trying to figure out why.
At the bottom of the comment box is the command "disable rich-text". If I click on it to enable rich-text, then click on Rich Text (filtered html seems to be default), it will let me post. At least it has twice now, and in between I got into the same "Comment required" cycle until I did that and post went through. Now let's see if this works again.
EDIT: Yep.
EDIT 2: But what a pain in the rear.
Same thing. Many times, I use the "go back" arrow, and it returns to the window where I entered the text. When I hit "save" again, then it works.
If it is a long post, I also try to remember to "copy" in case I lose it.
The problem is infrequent, but frequent enough it drives me a bit batty too! Thanks for articulating the problem so well and posting here.
Sally
It took me back all right, but then ALL the fields were blank!
I'm sorry I didn't respond to this sooner. I will try to reproduce this event. What post were you trying to make a comment on? Can you give me the URL?
The hosting group made some changes recently and when I have contacted them about this they continue to try to reproduce it without any luck. We are trying to see if it relates to just the "My Corner of the World" post or many other places on the site.
Thanks for your patience while we try to figure this out.

Ok, it's happening again, or still, I'm not sure which. If I've ever been able to simply post without going through some strange series of maneuvers within Weavolution, I can't remember it. It's frustrating, because I really like this place! Here is the URL to the message I was just trying to post, repeatedly: http://weavolution.com/comment/reply/19482 Same deal as before: I'd try to preview, and when it came up, the text box was empty, with message "comment field required". I know now to always copy first, so paste in, and try again. And again. Is it some sort of incompatibility with Windows 7? I don't have this problem with any other forum, even FB. Gosh, I hope you guys can isolate the problem, cause I'm starting to feel left out!
If I can get it to stick to "disable rich text", it seems to work. I think. I seem to be able to initiate new posts but not replies. When I try to reply, the disable rich text doesn't want to stick, and I can't type in either rich text option. I have no idea if any of this has anything to do with the root problem, but I am reporting anything that might help explain what the heck is keeping me from posting. Here goes...Nope, didn't work. BAck to "comment field required". Trying again. This time preview first.

Betcha same thing happens this time, too. Then I'm giving up. For now.
I am so confused. Yep, back to reply mode, "comment field required." Wonder where I'll go next? I'm at http://weavolution.com/comment/reply/19322back to "comment field required". 3rd try on this one. I must be stubborn or something.4th try.5th try. Going to try "preview" again. Nope. 6th try.
I'm new to this and just cannot post a comment. At least it is not only me.I'll try again.
I just disabled rich-text and it worked. First time in four days of trying!!!!
When I first started having this problem, I could not even disable rich text. However, lately I have been able to do that, and can post, though it still sometimes takes more than one try. However, it eliminates including photos in my posts, which is a bummer.
Before clicking on review or save, copy and past into a word document and save so if you lose it when you try to preview or save ,you will have a saved copy.
We're sorry this is still an issue. We are working on trying to figure out what is causing the problem. Thanks for your patience, Erica
I know it is a baffling problem. Odd that it affects some people but not others: that makes it even harder to figure out what is going on. Wonder if Win7 is an issue? I know it has affected some of my programs I never used to have a problem with. PS: it just did it again: came back "Comment field required". Pasting and continuing.... fingers crossed
I can't post a picture in a message. If a message goes through the first time on "disable rich text", I am amazed. I thought I'd try writing about my dye experiments in a message but it neither would let me post my photos (though it let me upload them) nor would it let me post in Rich Text at all.
I finally resorted to using the Project page, and it kept crashing me. I finally resorted to doing my notes in my word processor so I wouldn't keep losing them and having to start over. When I pasted them into the project note field, the paragraph breaks showed, but didn't post. They don't post for me most of the time anyway.
I love this forum, and I keep coming back because I learn so much, and it is fun to interact with other people. But I have been able to do so little of the latter that I visit less and less. I am frustrated to the point of tears right now. Other people experience this too and leave rather than bother. I haven't, yet. I don't want to. But I sure would like to know why this happens. This is the only forum I have this problem on. I don't understand it. I know you guys are trying your best to figure it out, but something is not working.
I'll keep coming back, but it's pretty limiting to have to try repeatedly to post a short message and make sure Rich test is disabled. sigh.
I got an email this morning that there was a new reply on this post, but when I clicked through, there wasn't. Here is the text of the email: Hi Neshobe,You have received a comment on: "Problems posting comments .. again."You can view the comment at the following url http://weavolution.com/forum/improving-weavolution/problems-posting-comments-again-19322#comment-62617 You will receive emails like this for all replies to your posts. You can disable this by logging in and going to your account settings.Webmaster of Weavolution http://weavolution.comRecently I have been able to post several times, but this time, again, I got kicked back with the notice that "Message field required". I dunno. Copying, just in case it happens again.
Thanks for mentioning this!
A lot of discussion threads were hit with spam last night, and when a discussion is marked to send you a notification, there is no way for us to cancel that e-mail after the spam has been deleted.
I'm not sure what to suggest about the "Message field required" error. I know that is frustrating, please let me know if this is occuring regularly for you or was a mostly one-time thing this morning.
That's why I rarely post here any more. Wow: it worked that time! Amazing!
Neither can I manage this
Disable rich text, hit save it flips around & there I was! posted

from IE 8 to Google Chrome for posting comment problems. That's what worked for me. I had the same problem. Once I updated to Google Chrome my problems ended like magic!

and have had no problems posting comments. When I was using IE8 I always hit the disable rich text and did not have problems posting. Firefox also works well.
I dropped IE9 because of issues with how it performed and frequent crashing. Too bad, I liked the interface. I use the new version of Firefox now, and like it better. BUT I still have had problems posting. I learned the disable rich text trip (see previous posts about this) a long time ago, but it still took several tries. I learned to copy my comment before trying to post. Nobody could figure out the problem (which I do not have on any other forum). So I rarely come to Weavolution any more except once in a while to browse. Now let's see how this post goes.
I don't like Google Chrome because it does not fit the way I work online. I have it because I like to check the appearance of my website and blogs on different browsers. I did give it a try on Weavolution, and had the same problem. I am not the only one who have experienced this issue. Other people gave up and went elsewhere. Me too, pretty much. I can't post photos, either, except on projects. It's not me, not my computer, not my browser. It's something in Weavolution.
We are also experiencing a glitch whereby you may see the organge toolbox when not logged in. If you find you do not see the comment box, post buttons, or can not access your profile, this means you are not actually logged in and need to do so.
Cheers,
Erica
