number of times a thread is viewed

Maybe I am the only one interested in this, but I find it helpful to know how many times a thread has been viewed.  When something is posted, the only way to know it is of interest is by the responses.  Sometimes there are very few responses and it would be helpful for future posts to know how many people are looking at the post.  If there are a lot of views, then one can figure ti was of interest, and more posts are encouraged.   Most boards I am accustomed to using have this feature.  Just wondered if you have considered it.

Thanks

I don't know about others,

I don't know about others, Tom, but I read all posts just to get rid of the "unread" status.  Then I don't go back to that forum unless I have something new to post or see someone else has posted a new message.   If most folks are like me, then knowing how many read it won't help unless there's a way to mark a thread read without actually reading it.  That's something I hope can be added in the not too distant future.

Interesting idea, Tom... I do

Interesting idea, Tom...

I do tend to do as Tina does, and read the posts...   but, you still would have no clue how many people might have seen your posts.  To a certain extent, if everyone is like Tina and me (I?), then the number of readers for a post is roughly equivalent to the number of people who have logged in and bothered to check the "new" messages.

On the other hand, if your posts are within a group forum, generally the number of readers isn't more than the number of group members unless someone has read it as a hot topic...

I think this is one that would take some thinking... but my head has already applied its quota of thinking for the day... *grin*

This is a good idea for all

This is a good idea for all threads. If I had something in the For Sale forum, I would especially like to see how many people are checking out my ad. If it wasn't generating any interest, I would know to change the ad or move it to another sales website online.

Thank you all for your

Thank you all for your input.  We are finishing up the corrections on a new version of the Looms page, including a Looms tab and the next fix up is for the forums.  Everything you have posted about the forums is being considered for renewal or repair.

Thanks for your suggestions and your patience as we work to make Weavolution the best possible.  I keep remembering the old adage, "Rome wasn't built in a day" but for us it's more like "Weavolution wasn't built in a....."  I wonder what we will fill in the dots with, a year? two?  We'll have to see.

Please know your comments and ideas are all being read and considered.

We have added the information

We have added the information about how many times a thread has been viewed to the summary information that you see on the main Forums page.

Because of the way I added this in, unfortunately you only see this information for the three most recent threads.  At some point we will go back and add this information on the page that shows all threads, but I didn't want to hold up all the other good changes to make a bunch of changes to that page as well.

If you have more comments, suggestions for changes, or need to report a problem with the new forums functionality, please add it to this thread:  http://www.weavolut ion.com/node/ 6806
