At the moment, the "notify me when a reply is posted" option is checked by default. Can you set it to be "unchecked?" Personally, I find this option annoying. I don't like the 'notifications" landing in my inbox. I check the forums pretty regularly. If I don't remember to "uncheck" that box then I get that annoying "You have a reply to...." If it's something you NEED answered ASAP then, fine, you can opt to check the box, but having to remember to always UNcheck it is a pain. Kind of like those sites that subscribe you to their email lists unless you are proactive about evading them!
Could you please change that setting?
thanks
Nancy C.
well, I like to get a notification. I like to know that I will actually find it if someone has commented on a post, and I find it reassuring that I don't have to look through everything to be sure I haven't missed a comment that I would want to read and possibly answer.
I would like it to be an option to check also rather than be automatic. If the topic meanders off in another direction you have to reply in order to "uncheck" the box. I tried to uncheck the box without replying in order to exit a conversation that had veered from the topic heading. I actually had to type something in order to withdraw from the conversation and the notifications.
I'm ok with it staying as it is IF one can withdraw from the notifications without posting a reply.
I hear what you are saying. I too, would like to be able to subscribe or unsubscribe from notifications without having to actually reply.
I did do a write up to improve notifications, but it was going to be expensive, so we decided to wait before doing it. I will look at some additional stuff and see if there's a way we can do it that won't be quite as expensive.
Try this:
Go to My Profile
Edit my profile
Notifications
Edit your notifications settings
Go to near the bottom of the page
In the Comment follow up notification settings, the second paragraph is "Receive comment follow notification e-mails." In the drop down box, select "No notifications."
Let us know if it works. I can't say for sure if it will.

okay, tried instructions above...could someone reply to this note so I can see if this worked? thxs Deb
Here's your reply. Let us know if it worked or not.
thanks Tina, mumph, that did not work, could you try to reply again I selected the 2nd option also to see what that did. So one more time, please reply so I can see if it worked!
Here is the box I am testing now....
hmmmmm, I just noticed that the box below my reply I am typing in now is still checked......I know if I uncheck that box I will not receve an email, so I am going to leave it checked and go with the one listed above....
That is the box to try. I don't think you should check the box, but should use the drop down and select no comments.
Is that what you did?
Also, is the notify box below still checked? - Oh I see that it still is. I don't think it should be!
I don't know if it makes any difference, but you might also try signing out, clearing your cookies and resigning in. No idea if that would have any impact.
yes, I did drop down and select the "no comment" line, darn, I did receive a notification in my email...grrrr, thanks for the notifications, I'm signing off tonight, thanks for trying.....Deb
My memory is that the checkbox at the bottom of the box when you reply over rides the preference in your profile. And the way that things are now, the setting in your profile doesn't have any impact on whether or not the notify box is checked by default.
Maybe that's a simpler thing to do for now--make the profile setting be a preference for whether that box is checked by default.
