Wow! I think this might be my new favorite starting spot. I have been using groups & forums in the black bar, which works pretty well. It is nice to see the topics of other groups too.

Thanks for the continued hard work!

This does my heart good

Thank you all.  I have had an horrendous week personally and I have ended every day crying myself to sleep over website issues and some other things going on in my life.  I can't tell you how happy it makes me that you have written to say you like it.

Hi Claudia, I am currently

Hi Claudia,

I am currently dealing with computer upgrades - I can't imagine what a job upgrading an entire website would be like.  :(

Anyway - the new My Groups is a huge improvement over what was happening before.

Hope the teething issues ease off soon,

Laura

I don't know the old version,

I don't know the old version, but I'd prefer a more grouped view on my chosen groups. To have an overlook about all the changed threads, sorted by groups. Or maybe tabbed groups, because sometimes one group is more interesting to me than another one and browsing through several pages can be troublesome.

Have you clicked on My Groups

Have you clicked on My Groups in the orange box at the top right side of the page?  I think it gives you what you are asking for.

You might like to look at the Dashboard, too.  It shows everything and you can separate what you want to look at by checking the box at the top of the Dashboard and then clicking on "Apply".

Clicking on "my groups" on

Clicking on "my groups" on the orange box creates a view of all recent posts, sorted by the timestamp of the last post. You cannot sort by group - at least I didn't find it yet. That's what I thought about. Or maybe something like one tab for each of the chosen groups.

I've found it easier to use dashboard

Fliegenpilz, I've found it easier to use the Dashboard function to see the latest posts.  You can use the select function to narrow out all the utility stuff going like like yarn, looms and projects and just look at forums and groups.  The groups function is probably the weakest feature here on Weavolution compared to the last version.  Programming focus seems to have been placed on the forum feature.

Just a warning, a couple of annoying items on using the Dashboard, sometimes your filter doesn't hold when you go back and forth between messages and when classes are added you have to page down thru all the class offerings.  BUT using the dashboard feature you see most of the current/recent posts you might want to see. Give the dashboard a try.

Well, the dashboard doesn't

Well, the dashboard doesn't help, because it shows ALL the groups/group posts, not only "mine". In order to get an overview about the activities in my groups, I find it easier to go to the orange box "Groups" and then use the tab "my groups". Unfortunately there is no further way to the new posts or at least the updated threads. So you have to search manually in the whole group for the thread that has changed.

Besides, I like the forums-feature very much, because it's very clear. Why not transform the groups in the same handling?

(I'm
sorry, if I'm expressing myself a bit complicated or harsh, but it's a very long time ago since I've learned
English at school and I don't remember all the little words and expressions that make a post more friendly or personal :-) )

some history for you

here's a link to some of the earlier discussion to give you some history, it's been long and painful to learn the system as it exists now.

We've asked for the same functionality in groups as forums but apparently that cannot be done.  We used to have that functionality but gave it up for a stable system.

Hope this helps you understand what Claudia has been working with.  I know she also posted an update on how she plans to update groups, I can't find it but maybe she'll post a link.  Deb Mc

My Groups vs My Groups

I think it does not help matters that there is a "my groups" tab
under "Groups" and there is also a "My groups" link in the orange box,
although each does very different things.  Perhaps the tab under groups
could be renamed Groups I've joined, or "My groups" in the orange box
could be renamed something else.

By the way, I think it might help
if the orange box were simplified and reorganized.  For example, the
individual links to "groups" and "forums" are redundant because these
links are already in the black navigation bar.  I could do without Add
Stuff, too, though others may like it.  And the Dashboard really isn't
personalized to a particular user.

So I'm thinking something like this for the orange box:

My Profile      My Drafts       My Favorites         My Groups

My Projects    My Stash        My Messages        My Forum Posts

I
would move the Dashboard link into Groups and Forums, which would make
it more prominent.  Fact remains most users aren't bothering to log in
(judging by the weavers/guests ratio) so they don't get to see some of
the nifty navigation tools that have been provided.

FYI, when you click on Groups

FYI, when you click on Groups or Forums in the orange box it takes you to the general page for either.  That way you see all the Forums on one page and can search all the Groups on Weavolution.  There is no other way to navigate to either without those two words to link them.

Groups and forums

OK, but if you click on Groups &Forums on the black bar, then in the upper left corner there are the same links to Groups and to Forums.  It does take more clicks, though.  Maybe Groups, Forums and Dashboard should form the right-most column on the orange box, as well as the left-most column on the groups and forums page.  That way, people would have access whether or not they'd bothered to sign in.

I am glad to hear you are pleased.  We were finally able to work out a way to organize the Groups landing page similar to the Forums.  Sticky threads can be added as desired.

I like it too.  I did notice, though, that only some groups with unread threads indicate that in the posts column.  Is that a bug or just something still getting worked out?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.  Which view are you in?  Can you do a screen shot to show what you mean?

Thanks,

Claudia

I didn't get the notification

I didn't get the notification of your reply Claudia.  It seems like sometimes I get them, sometimes not.  But here are screen pics of what I'm talking about.

Here's the list of groups I've subscribed to (from the My Groups tab from Groups).  You can see that AVL shows no new messages, but Backstrap Weaving does.

Here's what I see when click on my AVL group -- new messages.  Why don't they show up in the group list?  That way I only have to look at the groups with new activity.  Or does it only show new threads and not replies to existing threads?

It is still a nice improvement.  Weavolution is getting better all the time.

Hi Tina, There are several

Hi Tina,

There are several places to click on the red "new" and be taken to the newest comments in your groups.  First, in the Dashboard view from the orange box at the top of the page.  You can choose which view of Recent Activity you want in the Dashboard.

Second, when you click on "My Groups" in the orange box.  There, you will see all the recent comments in your groups and, if there are any you have not read, they will have a red "new" in the comments column.

You are looking at the one place where you cannot click on the red "new".  If you go to Groups from the orange box and click on "My Groups" there you will see where there are new comments but you will not be able to access those new comments.

Join us for the Open House  on Jan 6th and we can discuss this further.  I enjoy doing a little orientation of Weavolution once everyone gets signed in and have found their mic and speakers.  A  webcam is NOT  required, just adds to the fun.

Claudia

PS-we will be looking for volunteers to help with technical issues such as how do the notifications work and why do they only seem to work sometimes after Jan 1.  Watch for that announcement.  If you have ONE hour/week to give back to Weavo we'd love to have you join us.  I know your technical software skills are top notch.
