When I read this message

http://weavolution.com/group/scarf-borders-finishes/links-other-messages-test-only-14524

(cut-and-pasted) and followed the links, I got to the messages as I should - BUT: suddenly I was not logged in anymore! ("Log in to post a comment")

When I then used the back button, to get back to the test-only msg, I was again logged in...

I *think* it has happened once beforI was logged in, clicked on a message and was logged out. That time I did log in again, and was "allowed" to stay logged-in. As I was not in "testing mode" that time, I can be wrong.

And, when I followed my own

And, when I followed my own link above, I was still logged in. Going on with Deb's links, the same thing happened again: "welcome, guest"

Thank you for reporting this.

Thank you for reporting this.  Can you tell me what operating system and web browser you are using so I can report it to our developers.

Good work, this is very helpful so we can iron all the bugs out.  When I do the same, I get an "Access denied" page and am also logged out in both my admin and non-admin user names.    I am using Mac OS 10.6 and Safari and Chrome.

I'm using Win XP and Firefox

I'm using Win XP and Firefox 3.6.8. (Yesterday I was using Firefox 3.6.6, but it is the same today with the updated Ff.)

And, I see that I was not totally clear - *both* links from Deb's msg give me guest status.

Claudia, just to clarify what

Claudia, just to clarify what I am doing with these links.  In this case within the Scarf group I would link to other groups that had some nice finish examples.  Many times folks would post a photo WITHIN the scarf finish group but sometimes I would see a nice finish in another group.  For instances, Lavern had a nice edging posted in her backstrap group that might be useful for a scarf finish SO I would ask her permission and then post a link to that particular conversation in the OTHER group.  That way within the Scarf group we captured the thought and could bounce over to the other group to see the finish.  I cannot define how the issue that Kerstin brings up impacts us but that is why I am messing with putting those links up.  Make sense?  Deb Mc

I have received a response

I have received a response from our developer.  You are sent to a log out page because the link is missing the "www." in front of Weavolution.  Once you insert the www. you will be on our website.

Here is Marian's interpretation of the response:

The root cause is that the server considers http://weavolution.com to be different from http://www.weavolution.com. (note that the difference between these two is the presence or absence of www after the http)

If one person posts a link as http://weavolution.com and someone who has gone into http://www.weavolution.com clicks on that link, they will get an access denied message, because the server does not consider them to be the same thing.

Hope that helps.Claudia

Don't feel bad, when i tried

Don't feel bad, when i tried to get in after the server move, I have to send myself, via email, a "forgot password" link to get back in. Once I did that wverything was fine, same as before.

here is where I was

here is where I was originally working with the link, all the copies that I did using the link symbol above

http://www.weavolution.com/group/scarf-b...

It's interesting, in this message box where I am typing this message I cannot even use the link function, it is grayed out.  I've just pasted the link above so you can see what I was doing.....I did try to use the link icon above but it is grayed out, this is the first time I've run into this.

but... this means we can

but... this means we can never make links that work for everyone!Myself, for instance, is usually loggeg in at http://weavol... (without the www) - which is why *my* link above does not have it - while Deb has used the www-including option in her links...

So... if that explanation is correct, then I have lost faith in I-don't-know-exactly-what, the new server or Drupal or...

I am still trying to figure

I am still trying to figure something else out, I don't know if it is a problem or not but when I was trying to update some of my old links in my project it links with my user name....so.....does that mean if I toss a project link out as a reference on Weavetech or elsewhere outside of the Weavo community am I putting more out there than I want.  I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT STATEMENT IS CORRECT, so please don't try to fix it, I still need to log in from my husband's computer withOUT being logged in and see exactly how much access someone gets when I use the link.  Hope this makes sense. Deb, The link icon only shows

Deb,

The link icon only shows up when you highlight text you want to link and it pops up.  I thought the same thing and have tested it several times and it does work.

Please feel free to get back

Please feel free to get back to me if you have a problem.  You are welcome to link to another site and once you have highlighted the words you want to link, the link symbol will appear.

Now, a couple of days later,

Now, a couple of days later, I remember there is something called relative links - perfect to use when linking within a site. In relative linking the whole http and domain bit are omitted, you just link within the site relative to where you are linking from.Would it be possible to use relative linking when linking within Weavo? (Perhaps the link option could be made to recognize the word "weavolution" and omit parts of the link?) This way the problem with possible multiple log-ins would be solved...

Kerstin, Your comprehension

Kerstin,

Your comprehension exceeds mine and I will have to ask Marian and/or our developers about this issue.

Thanks for the question, it's a good one.

also we have two uses for

also we have two uses for this, this might make a difference also

1. linking within Weavolution from one group to another or from group to forum (including the projects linking to drafts)

2. sending links out to yahoo groups, facebook or other entities beyond Weavo
