I would like to see a Live Chat feature that would allow a user to see who is on-line and "invite" them to chat. Would any one else like this?

-although with the time difference I'd probably miss a lot of it over here in Europe.
Might be a nice addition. A single simple open room with opportunity to speak to all or whisper to individuals would be an easy(ier) start.

Hi Laurie
I'm not familiar with a simple open room. Do you have an example?
Moe
Older (much older) concept. The yahoogroups and other applications used to have this feature but it seems to have disappeared along the way. Rather than having a whole lot of little subgroups (rooms) there is only one meeting spot. Subgroups make sense with a huge diversified group, but there are generally less than a dozen members online here at a time. In a single room where all topics are welcome rather than sitting huddled alone with your "Huck Lace" or "reed" room topic attracting maybe one other person, you take potluck and discuss whatever comes up. Something like attending a guild meeting in person rather than a study group.

Thanks Laurie
Now I remember lurking on those type chats.
What I'm picturing is a more 1 to 1. When you on Weavolution it tells you how many members are logged on. I would like to be able to click on that and have it show who is on-line and have the ability to click on a name and invite them to chat. Of course that person will be able to decline the invitation.

I think that would be nice too. Of course we'd have to give everyone an option to be considered "offline" if they don't want to be interrupted.
I'd be 'in'. I notice how many weavers are online every time I log in and would be happy to chat, for a short time, with a fellow weaver. I would think that would greatly enrich my Weavo experience!
I' like this idea too! I also keep some very early morning hours, it would be nice to know if there were a few Weavos who wanted to chat then too, maybe some European friends!
Again, I've just noticed this is an older thread that's just been reinstated, I still think it's a nice idea!
Hi all, my thought on this is I would not like to see Weavolution take a direction toward a "Facebook". We now have a "Chat", and some nice "forums". People can jump in or simply lurk at will. Personally I would feel bad refusing to talk to someone. Perhaps I'm just "Old School", or the truth be known I'm a Slow typer! Best Regards, Frank
Well, I might be old school with Frank, but I have never seen the point of chats and I probably wouldn't use this feature. I'm also wondering how much server capacity and bandwidth this would take. I wouldn't want the costs of running the site to go up.
There are very simple interfaces available via mIRC type programs, or java clients. I have been chatting with quilting friends for over 15 years this way, from all around the world. I think it is a really fun way to meet new people, but it does add a new dimension that requires a different management style. The quiltchat group includes moderators who volunteer to cover time slots. If you want to take a look at what I am talking about, go to www.quiltchat.net and don't be afraid to say hi.
I can see you logic....but isn't Facebook absolutely HUGE? I don't think Weavolution is huge like that, and Weavo is filled with people who are totally focused on one shared interest. I am not on Facebook and I have very little knowledge or experience with it, but, it seems to me, that having this feature on Weavo would add to the experience for those who are interested in chatting with other weavers. I wonder if I should write anything here since I speak about this without having any earthly idea how this "chatting" can be done! Maybe Weavo members could "opt in" to be able to chat or be "interrupted"?
We weavers endeavor in an already profoundly solitary activity, and, for me in particular, I live in a very remote mountain area where sharing ideas with a fellow weaver would be soooooooooo welcome!
Hi Cat, good points! As long as one can easily opt out, those who like it can enjoy it. I too live quite rural, and on top of a mountain, Weavo beings me my link to the weaving community. I must admit though I'm way up here to enjoy life without all the Drama! I'll leave that to the younger generation! LOL. Frank
