Check out the new search feature.  Our developers have changed the search feature and it's a big improvement.

The most fun is if you misspell a word.  Try "yelow" instead of "yellow" and you'll see what I mean.

Let me know what you think.

search

I like the refinements to the search.  However, I am having difficulty searching on exact phrases.  To see what I mean, try searching "on opposites" - it seems to bring up any use of the word opposite (with or without the ending "s"), not the phrase "on opposites". Also, although it seems to permit searching within results, it looks like it is resetting at least partially.

diacritics, and searching for users

Although it is permitted (at least I think so!) to use letters with diacritics (sålldräll, used at http://weavolution.com/group/scandinavia... It should read like s- a with ring - lldr - a with dots - ll, which it does on the 'puters I have tried. I only hope it does for everyone?!?)...

Anyway. I tried searching for sålldräll and found nothing. Searching for salldrall worked. Maybe it should not be permitted to use such letters in the first place?

And, when using the small search field, there is a drop-down list. Using "Users" gives me results that seem to come only from classes, with no relation to the word (name) entered. I remember there were problems with searching for profiles earlier - that remains (no results at all). To summarize: I can't find myself, neither as kerstin or kerstinfroberg, if searching for profile OR user.

(And Laurie's problem is true for me, too. The quotes don't seem to change/mean anything)

users search

After reading Kerstin's post, I tried to search for users living in Maine, a useful feature we were able to access before last summer.  First, I couldn't find a way to search users (people, whatever).  Second, my search turned up every use of "main" in addition to "Maine" - rendering the search almost useless.  I don't mind having an alternative suggested, but it doesn't help to have one automatically implemented.

searching for users

and/or profiles still doesn't work for me. I never get any results *at all*, though sometimes I get a suggestion for another search word, but using that for a profile or user search will still not give any results.

(just making sure that the problem is not forgotten)

Hi Kerstin, Can you please pm

Hi Kerstin,

Can you please pm me with an example?  I pretty much always find what I want, so I'd like to try to reproduce your attempts and see what I can find.  It could be that we just look for different types of things so I haven't ever tried something like you are attempting.

Thanks,

Alison

Now I can find users!

Now I know how to search for users (thanks, Alison!). In case I'm not the only one not to have figured it out, this is how: type the name in the search field. Ignore the drop-down. Hit search. You will probably get lots of results. Ignore them - instead change the result page from "content" to "users". *There* they are! (The "users" in the drop-down menu seems to have no function)

users search

The suggested word problem (for example, giving all examples of main for Maine) is still there, rendering searches nearly useless.Putting the word in quotes "Maine" still brings up main, mainly, remain, etc.

Also, I still can't find a way to search user profile content.  If I search on Maine in users, I only get people who have used Maine in their username, not those who list Maine as their home.

I figured out the the two step process, with the useless "User" in the first drop down menu (which gives no results for Maine) a long time ago, but it is still cumbersome and annoying.

I am meeting with our

I am meeting with our developers this week.  We attempted to add a new profile module that allows for searching on all fields present.  When they tested it on the test site, it interferred with the proper functioning of several important functions.  We are working to resolve this very soon.

Thank you all for your patience.
