sorry to be a... forever complaining member...
Earlier today (possibly yesterday) I found, via dashboard (and dashboard alone) , that there was a new post in efficient weaver. Other groups in dashboard now have their name in the leftmost column, efficient weaver has not.
By clicking on it, I found the post - at the very bottomest of all bottoms of the group (even though it's date was logged as "today"). It's heading is "Treadling and knees". Since posted, it has got 3 answers/comments (according to dashboard), but none of them are visible in groups&forums (not even the first entry/group post).
Question: how do I know if there has been activity in a group I am a menber of?
It is sorta hopeless if one has to click on each and every topic to finds out if there are any interesting discussions going on...
(PC, Win XP, Firefox 3.6.8)
As far as I am concerned you are not complaining, you are helping troubleshoot the site for the site owners so that they can get the service from the group they are paying money$$$$ to for a site that works properly! Right now the site sorta works...
If we continue to give specific information to the site owners they can give good examples to the programmers so the site is better for everyone. Deb Mc (who is not a site owner but is a site user)
Thanks Deb, very nicely stated and accurate.
Kerstin, I was unable to reproduce what you saw. I will investigate further, the software is not considering those comments as Group Posts. I am glad you found the new design of the Dashboard.
You will know when there has been activity in a group you are a member of in two ways. !. Check the Dashboard and look at both the first column where the name of the Group is and look at the last column where you can see the time of the last reply.
Second, you can go to "My Groups" and see where there were recent comments and then find them on the Dashboard view or go browsing through the comments in the Group. You should be able to find everything you need in the Dashboard view. Yes, it's different than the Forums and, for now it's the best we have. It may take a bit of time to get used to but it's better than no Weavolution at all.
We continue to look for alternatives to the Groups idea but having everything be Forums defeats the purpose. Groups give you many more choices in setting them up and reading them than do the Forums. You may like the organization of Forums but there are no choices.

I tried to do a couple of screen captures, but can't find a way to paste them into this comment... (tried making them into a .jpg but it won't upload - gave up after 15 mins) How can I paste them in - or, how can I send them to you?
So -
1. do you mean that you see the group name "efficient weaver" in the left-hand column in the dashboard? I see group names for other groups, but the efficient weaver entry only has "group" (not even "group post")
2. in groups&forums there is no entry for anything at the time indicated in dashboard - there are activities logged for other groups and forums 10 mins earlier, 5 mins later... Do you mean that you find a post to efficient weaver in g&f?
Finding group comments - you write: "Second, you can go to "My Groups" and see where there were recent comments". Well - I only (*only*) see new *posts* under My groups - new *comments* dont show up there. For me, that is.

If I may help, I think I see what Kerstin is talking about. Here's the screen shot from Dashboard:

You can see the Group (not Group Post) entry for The Efficient Weaver. If you click on it, it takes you to the group, but not in the same format as it does for group post. And it looks weird, because you can see the links to go to additional pages of group comments above the one in question. Here's a full screenshot of where it takes you to. Let me know if you can't see it well and I can try to send it to you privately in an email.
And lastly, I've noticed that when I try to upload a picture that it never seems to finish. Maybe that's what Kerstin was experiencing when she tried to include a screen shot for diagnosing this problem. But if I wait a minute, then click on my user # in the navigation area, confirm I want to refresh the directory, then the new photo is there. But the upload button still looks like it's doing the upload. I ignore that and click on the sendtotinymce link to complete the task.
I hope this helps.
I forgot to include that this comment in the group is nested, too, not chronological. And I see some entries in Dashboard like this for Weave Fail and Michigan Weavers too.
Thanks for your help and your concern Tina and Kerstin. I took a screen shot of the Efficient Weaver in the Dashboard view and I have reported the problem to our developers and will let you know what they find.
As for the photos, the max size is still 2 mb so you may want to check that. Screen shots can be very large.
As for the nesting, i believe it occurs when you click on reply but will have to check on that one.
Claudia
