This thread is created to channel all the DARES you have. Post your dares, read through dares, see if any meet your needs, if not create one.

Leading isn't really a teaching or advising position, it's just someone who will create the group and start the study of the dare. It's helpful to have this person have webex (but not necessary) experience and some.. If you don't have the experience, no issues, you can post questions on the forum and you will get the help you need.!

Click here to download a PDF describing HALLOWEAVE GROUP LEADER options.

This is peer to peer interaction.

MY DARE: it's all about stripes - how to create appealing stripes in a warp. I'm big on variaged warp because i don't do stripes well!

I've started the group - please join me!

Calling all Head Shrinkers!

I Dare you to create something that you are going to intentionally shrink!  Let's live dangerously and play with differential shrinkage or felting, try a combination of yarns you have been putting off exploring.  Afraid of the results?  Let's work together and share ideas and notes.  Join the HalloWeave group "Revenge of the Shrunken Heads" and we can meet and show and share online throughout the month of October.  I dare you to follow the link Here Dawn

I dare everyone who had wonderful hand dyed or hand spun yarn languishing in their stash to conquer their fear of messing it up! These yarns are beautiful and long to be woven! With gorgeous hand dyed and hand spun yarns, how could you possibly go wrong?! Conquer your fear, so you can enjoy these yarns for years to come!

I've started a group to weave shawls

called las catrinas.  In Mexico Las Catrinas are skeletal figures that appear around the Day of the Dead, 1-2 November, and are very elegantly dressed.  A handwoven shawl or rebozo would be the perfect elegant touch.

I personally taken with Mexican rebozos and will model mine on them, but you can use what ever shawl inspiration  touches you.  If you are up for weaving a shawl during HalloWeave join us at Las Catrinas  ( even men can join)!

Brew up some critters

I have a little head start on this dare.  It is to weave some fabric and create a
critter.  My dare for myself is to weave enough wool fabric to make eleven Teddy
bears before Christmas, with each of them a different look.  I started with a brew to overdye some ugly colored wool in my stash.  Yellow plus purple equals brown, and it makes a great warp.  I have
five fabrics woven, wet finished, and fused with interfacing, and have
two more completed on the loom.  I just started my eighth fabric.

Mine is a personal dare, as I doubt anyone else would join me anyway!

I am going to learn to weave sprang netting. Sprang is a very very old weaving/braiding technique, and I will be using Peter Collingwood's book The Techniques of Sprang to figure out my method.

My goal is to have a reproduction of a Bronze Age hairnet, woven on a supplemental weft from a tablet-woven band done by Halloween.

I already have the loom warped with the band and the first segment woven. The supplemental weft for the sprang matrix starts now.

Stell, if i wasn't swamped

Stell, if i wasn't swamped i'd join you in a minute - feel free to set it up as a group, that way you're eligible for prizes. A group can be 1 member or more than 100 -

P.S. Have you talked to your mom lately?

I dare one and all to join me here and conquer your fear of sewing with handwovens!

(and it doesn't have to be garments - tote bags, quilts, etc. are equally welcome!)

Well, heck, Stell, I'll join you! I attended a Sprang class at Pennsic 39, and I liked it, but I haven't done anything with it since. I think I need a new bag!

Arggghhh!

Okay. I have to curb my enthusiasm. My three weeks of obligations in October may expand to all four, which only leaves three DAYS available at the end of the month. I'm gonna have to pass this time. Bummer.

Can I still contribute/participate to the team forum? I don't want to diminish the team's chances by not being able to post regular progress, but I would certainly like to follow the action while traveling. (Let me know.) I am sure there are others out there like me.

FYI, Big kudos to member Karren B for coming up with the idea of the Halloweave Challenge Event!
