Syne Mitchell, creator of WeaveZine.com and the host of
WeaveCast – a podcast for weavers, will be sharing her passion for textiles with us at Tradition/Innovation - a Fiber Artisans Conference, May 18 - 20, 2012 in Oakland, California.
Syne's class on Sunday, May 20 about e-Textiles which will show you how to
bring your weaving or knitting into the 21st century! In this
class students will be given an overview of eTextiles: how to add
lights, temperature sensors, motion sensors, buzzers, and more to their
garments. The class will look at and discuss the Lilypad Arduino circuit
board, and then students will apply these principals to create their
own eTextile garment, either a knitted hat or a woven scarf. Students
should bring: A project in progress, either a knit in the round piece,
or a plain weave project.
She will also be teaching a class in beginning rigid heddle weaving all day
Saturday, May 19. This is a wonderful chance to get your knitting
friends to learn how to weave – or that friend who always admires your
scarves, but doesn’t believe that they, too, could weave. Syne’s class
is perfect for that person. This will be a fun and inspiring introduction to
weaving. Spread the word - help others find the love of weaving and fiber! Classes in beginning spinning, beginning tablet weaving and easy basketmaking are also included in the classes offered

Very cool! Who is planning on going to this conference? It sounds fabulous!
Cheers,
Erica
I'll be there. I love this conference. If you haven't signed up yet, please do so right away. Workshops are filling up quickly. I'm continuing my narrow works studies by taking John Mularky's workshop on tablet weaving. I'm also going to get my jacket finished for the returned fabric gallery/competition. I entered it in 2010 as yardage, so finishing up is part of that competition. And this is the hard part.
