It is beyond me why many people can't put an actual photo of themselves on this web site, instead of their cat or whatever. Seems very strange. (And no, there's no photo of me just because I only have very slow dial-up internet access, and so can hardly use this site unless I go to the public library.)

I just flipped through a bunch of pages under the people tab and it seems like there are a whole bunch of users without any picture (perhaps also in situations like yours, Frances), but of the rest I see more photos of weavers than of cats, dogs, or looms, though I saw some of all of those.

I do like to see some picture (be it the weaver or their cat) when possible because it helps me remember who said what a bit easier than remembering a name.

I agree with zinniz!  The

I agree with zinniz!  The weavatar is a representation of who we are, even if it isn't a picture of our faces.  I think of the Weavatar is an indivdual expression that gives me some insight into who the weaver is.

Also, some people are very cautious about their identities while on the web.  They want to be anonymous.  So while I like people to sign with the name they'd like us to call them, I understand why they may chose to not give it.

I hope Francis, that you give us a picture, whether of yourself, or your favorite project soon.

As for me, unlike Michael, I use my cat because I don't look so good (LOL)!

I, too, prefer to use my cat

I, too, prefer to use my cat rather than my own face - she is prettier than I am!

Internet security is very important - I have met more than my fair share of maniacs out there, and I fully sympathize with those who are concerned enough to use an anonymous avatar and ID, even on a site as friendly as this - social networking sites are now gathering a reputation for danger because of incautious use by many of the youngsters who flock to them.

So each to their own, and while some people will be up-front with who they are, there are others who will not be so pushy, and we should respect that.

i like to use one of my weavings for avatar so one can see what kind off weaving i do.I don't mind people to use a picture off their pet or whatever; it is easy to remember who is who ;On the other hand  a photo is like a more personal contact so perhaps i will change my avatar in the futur.(preview  below)what counts most  is sharing the love for weaving .

I use a picture of myself

I use a picture of myself with my beloved dogs - think this identifies me as the weaver with the Sheepdogs!

Internet security does concern me - to the point that I am afraid of blogging.  After reading about so many bloggers having problems with spam and security issues I have decided to just read other's blogs rather than starting one of my own.

Seeing photos of pets or whatever a person chooses is fine with me.  The Weavolution icon instead of a photo is a bit disconcerting but if that is what a person chooses that is okay too.

Hi Frances,

I spend about 50% of my time on dial-up and it's a third world dial-up when my wifi connection dies and you shoudn't have any problems uploading an avatar-downsize your photo to 20KB.

Now we are all waiting to see your avatar!

Ditto here.. it would be nice

Ditto here.. it would be nice to see SOMETHING besides all those W's!  I'm not worried that something will happen to me because someone sees a blurry picture of me on the web :)

That's actually what I like so much about forums like Weavolution (over Yahoo-groups) is that I have a visual of who I'm communicating with... makes it more real and personal.

I think Caroline actually IS a cat!

That would explain her fascination with string.

Have a good day!

I dont have anyone to take a photo of me to post on any site, so I use a photo of when I got my current dog - at least I'm in the photo!!    I have some pictures of my taken when I was a teenage, but since I'm 60 now, I think it's best to use a more current photo.  :)

I thougt I put on picture on how do I tell if It worked???

To change your avatar, go to

To change your avatar, go to "My profile", it's on the left side of the page, and then to 'Edit my profile" and about halfway down you will see:

Just click on "choose file" and find the file you want to use from your computer, click on it and then go to the bottom of the page and click on "Save"   The next time you post something your avatar will be there.  Just be sure you load the photo in the top most picture slot where it says "avatar image".

If you have further problems, contact me at claudiajane@weavolution.com and I'll help you sort if out.

Just added a photo of me

Just added a photo of me weaving on my backstrap loom.  It is such a tiny picture, you can't tell what I look like anyway.  If you really want to see what I look like, this same photo is over on the backstrap forum, too.
