I just ordered a stainless steel reed and understand that there's a protective oil coating on it.  Is it necessary to remove the oil before using the reed, and if so, how should I do that?  I'll be weaving a baby blanket with Bambu yarn.  The blanket will be able to be washed in warm water, gentle cycle, with a mild detergent.  Thank you!

No

Wet finishing will remove the oil that the blanket picks up from the reed, If you do want to remove the oil wash it with some alcohol.
