My husband was at a meeting this weekend and found out that a retired lawyer he knows used to weave rugs. He said he thought he still had the loom out in a barn somewhere, tried to sell it once and nobody wanted it. My husband said he'd be interested in buying it, the guy said he'd give it to him if he could find it. It is an 8 shaft but no mention of maker. I hope he's right about still having it! This should be interesting.

a great adventure or a warped, sad loss. The last barn I was looking into (yes, with permission), I found an 8-Harness loom standing on it's side, under a tarp, dirty, dusty, muddy, rusty, some wood rotted, but most wood in good condition, and I was viewing it while standing atop some unidentified piece of farm equipment and using a flashlight to shine down onto the loom! It was free,too....and what a wonderful gift it turned out to be! At the time, my weaving school was full, so I called one of the my students and said she might want to have it. To this day, this beautiful, refurbished/reclaimed/remembered and loved loom still brings her joy today, many years later! Look for warping (especially the harnesses, breast and warp beams) and for rotting (is it a part or parts that can be rebuilt). After a lot of time, effort and elbow grease, you might have a real treasure! With caution and encouragement I say....Best Wishes!
