Marsha,

I like all kinds of weaving, but my least-represented area of weaving expertise is tapestry. But I DO weave a lot of pick up bands, so I say just stick with it!

The more you know about weaving technques, structures, and your loom, the less likely you will be to say "once you set up a loom, you are stuck with it." Motifs can be woven with 4 shaft structures like summer and winter, rosepath, and transparency weave. (I can't tell if your Gilmore "mini wave" is just two shafts or not.)

I do all kinds of crazy things like use dummy warps, tie a different warp onto parts of an existing warp, add to the warp, or even cut off a warp, completely in midproject, rethread, etc. So there are options, even with a 2-shaft loom, and especially when you have a "dog on your loom." (a project that is unbearable to finish!)

These are far from "dogs" even if you are stuck with stripes you didn't intend. So enjoy the process of discovery. It's fun that you post so we can follow along!

Oh, and your selvedges look perfect! (I would think your tapestry expertise must contribute to that!)

Thanks for your kind words Sally.  And yes the Wave is only two shafts, but I intend to experiment to its fullest potential!  As for my salvedges you guessed it correctly, tapestry.  I will definitely keep posting as I enjoy both the weaving and this web site.

Notes

Still haven't figured out how to make the stripes disappear.  :-(  But I did manage a perfect warp this time.  I used Mini blind slats and maybe that helped, probably didn't hurt that I used ONLY mercerized cotton.  I tried to make one into a cell phone pouch today.  Much to my dismay this sews up much differently than the tapestries/weft face weavings I am accustomed to making into bags and totes.  Once again I have discovered that I am absolutely not a seamstress.  One thing for sure I am learning alot of new things about weaving and my skills and lack there of with my new loom.  Tapestry seems to come much easier to me...or maybe I have just been doing it so long that I don't remember it being this much of a struggle.  I do realize that this weave structure is absolutely the opposite of what I usually do.  In some ways I find it very liberating, in others very limiting.  I am used to more creativity without as much technicalities.  In other words if I changed my mind about my designs I could just pick up a different color...not so with warp face.  Once it is on the loom you are committed to the original idea.  Maybe I have a bit of free spirit in me after all.  LOL

I will persevere though so keep watching for new things to come!
