What would be the best choice for a 40-48" loom for weaving rugs?

Joanne Hall

Here is my list of loom features to look for if you want to weave rugs.

1. Counterbalance or countermarch tie-up

2. Hanging beater, as it is heavier and in the end, easier on your shoulders

3. Loom depth at least as much as the weaving width, so at least 48 inches of loom depth from breast beam to back beam.  And, more is better

4. Large dimension warp and cloth beams, at least 12 inches in circumference.

5. Ratchets instead of a brake with a band.

6. A tall loom, so that you sit higher, warping is easier and the beater sweep is greater.

These are the important ones.  I may be forgetting some, but this is a start for you to consider.
